Long story short, had to remove turbo to remove egr cooler...replaced turbo, tightened down v-clamps, but had exhaust leak...retightened again, idled, and everything seems good. Went for test drive, taking it easy, all working good. Got on the throttle, maybe 50%, downsifted to lower gear, rpms went up, went about 20 feet, and then a big 'BANG' like a gasser back firing. Loss of power, had to limp home. When its in idle, everything sounds fine. While I was limping home, I noticed a 'drone' like noise from under the hood when ever I was on the throttle, basically all the way home. Let off of throttle, and 'drone' like noise goes away. I really need some help here..Ive been battling this truck for the last couple of weeks with EGR cooler....stripped threads....Finally all seems done, and this comes up...Im up to my neck with it....Hopefully you guys can help...if not its off to the dealer on Friday.....
In my case, I believe that the threads were stripped on the clamp when the dealer replaced the turbo. It looked like a good clamp, but the threads were pulled out of the nut. It blew off 2-3 more times before I finished my trip hauling a trailer. There is a Ford replacement hose that is supposed to give more grip. I replaced both clamps so I carry the original hose plus the remaining good clamp for spares in the truck. The hose and clamps are a bit pricey. My hose was torn a bit on the edge where it pulled free from the clamp.
do you have a boost gauge ?? sounds like these guys are right. usually a blown boot for one of your hoses, or sometimes it can even be a I/C end tank that cracks from the pressure.
