!979 Ford Econoline Air Question
The old air cleaner has a snorkel leading to a port in the front grille, and a valve in it that draws warm air from the exhaust area to bring the engine up the temperature faster. It also has PCV. While the new Edelbrock AIr CLeaners i'm looking at have PCV ( and i know i have to keep this), they don't have the option of hooking up the snorkel and the valve in it.
I see many engines in cars without the snorkel, how important is it for me to keep this system? I live in Montreal, so i was thinking that considering the brutal cold we get sometimes, the thermostatic valve in the snorkel might be very important.
Ideally i'd like to get a shiny new Air Cleaner to cap off all the great work i did underneath, but if the snorkel and valve are critical, then i'll have to keep the old one.
Cheers, this is my first post, this forum is fantastic
you would need it during the winter
the PCV can be filtered with an after market
K&N style breather for a little more bling
you can always swap back and forth during the seasons
as needed if it is important enough to you
or just build a custom cleaner out of stainless
and you could have a hood built to drop on in cold weather
the other option of using the open style year round
can cause carb icing which is a real concern up north
Love the forums.
