I am doing a big job for me and putting new seals and ball joints on my f250 4 X 4 diesel. I have it tore down axels out and everything except the differential. Tonight I took the cover off how does the gears come out of the differential to put the new seals in? I see the there are two bolts on each side do I take them off and them what.
Thanks
It's a very tight fit, you should be using a case spreader.
There are ways to remove it but gettin it back in may leave you.....?
See if you can find the correct tool.

Take the 4 large bolts out, tap the caps with a hammer to remove. Make sure to put the caps back in the exact place where they were removed from. The center section is going to be very difficult to remove and worse to reinstall without a spreader. There will be shims on both sides of the center section they should also go back exactly where they came from and the bearing cups also should be returned from their original location. Take your time and mark or tag the parts as you remove them!!!! DO NOT pry on gears or bearings!!! I have replaced center sections without the aid of a spreader, take your time!!!! The center section bearing cups and shims all must go back in as one assembly. It will not slide in it must be forced with the persuasion of a hammer, TAPPING on the bearing cups and the shims. The shims are cast and will break if you HIT them with a hammer, TAP ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again, take your time, good luck, not a job for the faint of heart. If you do crack or break a shim don’t throw it. Keep all of the pieces as they have ink or paint marks on them which will tell the thickness. Take the broken pieces to your local dealership and talk to the tech. and see if you can get a replacement shim from him, don’t know if you can purchase the shims separately from the parts dept.
Thanks for your response Can someone tell me how hard it is to get the old seals out? I am making me a tool to put the new one in. Tonight I am going to tackle this differential tare down.
