Steering gear replacement

I'm going to do this tomorrow. Any tips or tricks from those of you that have done this before? Anything I should worry about as far as the airbag is concerned? TIA

I gotta say....It's a pretty heavy duty unit. He must have had one BIG hammer to break that.

Well, I found out why it happened...That Pitman arm is on tight!!!

All in all, a pretty straightforward repair. Things I would recommend;

Buy either a real good pitman arm puller or a new pitman arm from Ford. (40 bucks)

I didn't have much time to mess with this today so I bought a new one. Be careful how much you beat on the steering box, you break the case on the old box you're out your 200 core fee.

The orings that came with the steering box were the wrong ones. I had to make yet another trip out to find replacements.

So a simple two hour job turned into a whole day affair. Having said that, it drives like a new one!!
I can go back to driving with two fingers again!!

I paid 260 bucks with a 200 core charge for a Cardone reman unit. You have to count the splines on your pitman arm. It will be either 32 or 36. My truck was a 36.

I got my truck back last night. What a difference that gear made. Straight and steady, also the fluid flush has given me the ability to once again parralel (sp?) park. The bil also put a new pitman arm on. The old one was smashed a bit.
