My wife has an 06 explorer 4.0 automatic AWD. Here recently it doesnt want to idel and will sometimes die going down the road. It has been to the dealer 3 times. The last time they said that it had a loose connection on the throtal position sensor. I am just looking for any info before I take it back to the dealer. It has 40,000 miles on it but is covered by an extended warenty. Any help will be appreciated.
The first 2 times they couldnt find anything. They even drove it for 2 days. Last time they said it showed the TP sensor. The check engine light isnt staying on. It only happens to her. I havent been able to get it to do it to me yet.
Update. She can be driving down the road the wrench light will come on in the dash and then it will start loosing power and die. After it sits for a couple of minutes it will restart and everything is fine for a while. It may go a day or a week without it doing it again. It is going back to the dealer tomorrow. If the problem isnt found I guess I'll be buying her something else. I don't want to I like the explorer. But you know what they say. If Mama aint happy nobodys happy. Right now she aint happy.
If any one has any ideas please let me know.
Thanks

Dont have my looking glass, but I would be looking for a fuel delivery problem.
Yea its still under waranty. The agravating part is that I will take it in and it shows no codes. They might drive it a little and it acts fine. It has 41000 miles on it. We have an extended warenty for 5 years 100k. My wife is scared it will leave her and the kids on the side of the road.
I have some one who is going to change the filter Sat. He is going to look over it. He is a former ASE Ford Tech. He is going to check for loose wires and stuff. He realy knows his s@#$. He left the dealer because he was starving. It is sad. His brother in law owns the dealership and was paying him next to nothing.
Well the truck is in the shop now. She was driving it sat snd it died on her 3 times. The last time the check engine light stayed on and by the time she got it to the dealer it was runing really rough. No techs in on sat so I'll have to wait untill next week to see what the problem is. I am really impressed with the help that I am getting from my dealer. She brought it in and they put her in a loaner within just a few minutes. This is the 3rd time that they have given us a loaner. The dealer is Lakeside Ford in Ferriday Louisiana. Now with the light staying on they should be able to tell what the problem is. I'll post when I know what the problem is so maybe it will help someone else in the future.
Why does all of this have to happen when I'm 900 miles away @ work. I guess it's another case of Murphys law.
Same symptoms as my 2003 Sport Trac. I'm looking for a bad fuel pump. Mine is also intermittent. Significant loss of power just like a bad fuel pump. Checked the fuel pressure this morning and after sitting overnight the problem was gone. I didn't see a regulator. Is this an pressure sensor system with computer control? I'm an Engineer with decent backyard engine management understanding. 68 psi at key on and bled down to 50 psi in one minute. Idled at 64 psi? Seems high but I don't have the service manual yet.
Well they fixed the problem. It ended up being the throttle body. They replaced it and the truck runs great. It was running terriable before. They said when the throttle body goes out it usually goes out all at once because it is electronic. I hope this is the end of the problem. The service manager was great.
