Vacuum Problems

Howdy folks,

When I put my 2000 X into 4 wheel drive, after about 15 seconds the dash damper will shift from vent to the defroster outlets. If I take it out of 4 wheel drive, it will again wait about 15 seconds and then go back to the vents. It has the 7.3 PSD. I'm assuming that I either have a leaking vacuum line somewhere in the 4wd circuit or the vacuum pump may not be working well.

Where would be a good place to start looking?

Thanks!

Yes you have a leak. Check the hoses from the chassey to the wheel for leaks. Mine cost $3.80 to fix. could be elsewhere, but this is easy quick check.

First place would be to check the lines going to your hubs.

Second thing is to check the lines at the pump itself under the hood on the firewall.

Third thing to check is the vacuum line up under the passenger side dash. Now...I cannot remember the details off-hand but DO know it is here in the "Halls of FTE". There is a step by step process to track down that leak. Sometimes if it just a matter of the tube coming off and all you gotta do it put it back on.
