Hey Cujo

Hey Cujo, i just took a look at your webshots page to see if you'd added anything, looks good i see you're on to the cab.

I had a question for ya. Did you have any rust in your cowl?

Not that I can see yet, but there is some fiberglass work on the DS cowl that I have not removed yet, so there maybe some rust under there.

How are you planning on getting in there? I have surface rust on the inside of my cowl, it doesn't look like there was ever any paint on it at all. Luckily it's not that bad but i can't seem to figure out the best way to get in there.

I believe you must be talking about the area under the cowl vent, correct? I think there was paint inside the cowl vent before I sandblasted, but after sandblasting the vent the paint is just about all gone. I have been playing with the idea of cutting access holes on both sides of the firewall to gain access to this area to clean out the debris that collects in there and is probably why this area rusts. I will then cover the access holes with sheet metal using screws, so I can gain accesss when I want. Anyone else done something like this?

I have though about cutting access underneath the finders. Then use a roller and roll on POR15 or Rust bullet then seal it backup with removable access panel. In this area you will not have a problem of water leaking inside the cab during a frog floater. You can clean the fresh air vents out, from inside the cab. I have more rust there than under the cowl.

I'm getting close to accessing that area after I paint the inside of the cab. I have to remove the finders and supports for paint.

You're talking about access from the engine compartment right? I have been leaving this repair alone some of the advice i got was to drill through the tack welds and yada yada. Didn't want to do that, access holes seem better though. I wonder if there is already something out there for this reason?

I have never seen anything available for this repair in the after market, but I am sure someone here has been through it before. Yes, my idea is to cut access holes on the firewall side of the vent chamber and put removable plates in for future access to clean out the leaves and pine needles that get stuck in there.
