i am a jeep guy but was referred here for advice, and dont know much/anything about fords, so anything you could give me would be great. i have a friend who wants to lift his 2005 f150(4wd) and i told him i would look at some info for him. so fill me up! whats good, whats bad, whats cheap, and where to get it all! thanks!
i just ordered a 6" RCD kit for my truck.... not the cheapest (2300), but by far the most complete kit i found. comes with all 4 bilstein shocks, only uses1 block in the rear, new front braided stainless brake lines, diff. skid plate. there are lots of options, and if you do a search here on "lift kit", you will get lots of opinions.
Depending on how big he wants to go and what size tires, there are several different lifts to go with.
A lot of people do the 2" or 2.5" leveling kits. These will clear 35" tires on stock rims, but not with much room to spare.
The people that do the 2.5" usually do a add a leaf in the rear also for some extra height, and when they tow, the truck doesn't look like it is always squating.
The 6" lifts look great, but cost to much(for me). They are pretty easy to install if you have the proper tools and time.
The stock shocks basically suck, and don't last past 50K miles, so what I do if I had to do it over again.... Buy some coil over shocks for the front that include 2-3" lift and install them. Saving money, and time to install a leveling kit, then go back and install the shocks. Bilstein or Rancho RS9000s are some very good quality shocks.
