i am new i would like some help with a project>
i have a 400m 79 f250 4x43in body lift.the body is gone off the frame shot scrapped no good
i bought a77 f150 trailer special with a nice 460 boby very nice also
should i take all the 77 stuff and put it on the other frame or convert the nice truck with the 4x4 parts? also the 460 has a nice auto and the 4x4 is a 4 speed i want the auto
that depends on your experience, space, and tools???.....oh and lets not forget $$$
Body swaps are the easiest...but to do what you want you need to do little of this and a little of that = a whole lot of swapping.
I would use the 4x4 platform and ditch the drivetrain in favor of the 460/c6 combo, but then you'll need a different tailshaft for your c6 to bolt up your xfercase, or a divorced xfer case. Then I would move the 2wd body over to the 4x4 platform.
It sounds like a ton of work but if you have the time/money/space/skills go for it!!!
It depends if the 77 is a pre 77.5 or post 77.5. Does the frame taper out at the back, or does it stay straight? If it is an early 77 (2wd disguised highboy), you'd be better off getting a divorced t-case and swapping that in imo. That's not too hard. To take the 79 stuff and put it into a pre 77.5 would be very hard. Otherwise the body swap idea will work fine either way.
To get the most out of your 4x4 Id leave the 4 speed in it. most people swap from atx to mtx specially when it comes down to a 4x4. Unless you have a bum leg or live in San francisco due to all the hills Id stick to the 4 speed. Just my 2 cents.
