BBK throttle body

1988 F250 351 185,000

As my numerous post have stated, I have this annoying lean condition at idle. Fuel is dumped in to compensate and I get a surging idle and code #41. Slight amounts of carb cleaner spayed at he pivot points of the throttle plates would even out the idle and bring the vacuum up to 19 1/2" from 16". The thought the throttle body was worn out.

I ordered a BBK 56mm throttle body from. Fast delivery but the lower coolant tube was factory positioned at an odd angle which made it point towards the back of the alternator. Big pain - another trip to Advance to pick up a longer 3/8" coolant hose. When I finally started up the truck the idle seemed a slight bit smoother and I’m seeing 17 1/2" vacuum. After a 10 mile test ride I have it back in my garage seeing if I can tweak the base idle a bit - and the whole front linkage pivot seems loose. As I start to wiggle it, the shaft pulls out of the mounting hole!<O

Guess who gets a call this morning? For $350 it will obviously be going back. I did not even get to pull the codes to see if I lost the #41. My guess is probably not. I think I will put the old throttle body back in and call it a day on this truck and take a vacation to Cape May. I've tried for months and spent tons of money trying to find what is causing the low vacuum and surging idle. This forum testifies to how many Ford trucks have idle issues of one sort or another.

Any other ideas?

Have you remove the IAC valve, dismantled and thoroughly cleaned it?

The IAC is brand new. So are all the other sensors and the computer. I keep thinking that the maybe the new O2 sensor went bad. There was alot of coolant from the heads that went into the exhaust pipes when I first replaced the engine. The truck blew white smoke for 10 minutes (on the new O2 sensor) before it burned off all the excess coolant. I've heard that coolant can blow a good O2 sensor. I know my TPS is .9v I worked for quite a while to get that output. The EVP is less than 6.7v and no codes come up besides #41!
