I just checked my glow plug relay after reading someone elses thread.I do not have power on the load side of the relay when I turn the key to the on pos.The truck is already warm though.Question is will the relay always come on even when warm but for just a shorter period of time or will it only work when the engine is cold?
Thanks
The PCM controls the gp system. If the engine is warm, it most likely will not turn on the gplugs. I have noticed this since I added the volt gauge. When the glow plugs are one, it will read just over 11 volts when I turn the key. After the enginge is warm, it will read over 12. This tells me the plugs are not on. I may add an LED indicator like wmriceman did.
Yea I think I'm going to do the same thing with the indicator light that WMRICEMAN did on his.So back to the relay. If I understand you correctly.I should not get any voltage whan the truck is warm.So I can only check for a bad/or good relay when the truck is cooled down

Not exactly. There are certain factors that determine whether or not the PCM will turn on the gps and for how long. Ambient temp, etc. The best time to test is when the engine is cold. You could always take it out and bench test it.
Thanxs for clarification.I'm probablly going to just change out the gpr anyway. It looks like its been there a while. While i'm at it i'll do the glow plugs and valve cover gasket. Thanks again for the reply.
Thanks.I just ordered the stancor from the site that guzzle gave on your link. That should take care of that for a while.quite a difference from the stock and the stancor. From the looks at the pics.
is this LED hooked in with the wait to start light?? i have a gauge pod i want to put in my cluster..but if i do.. it covers the WTS light..i got a LED to put in.. but when i took the cluster out i could not find the wires..where can i hook up such a light ?? thanks Ron

I am pretty sure he went straight to the gpr with it. He mentions an inline fuse to the LED and that would be the only reason. It's more accurate that way. Just because the WTS light is on doesn't mean your gps are on, and the LED to the relay will let you know for sure when they are on or off.
I am trying to find a gauge that has an LED built in to wire this way. If not, I may just have to go this route and stop by rat shack.
I got mine at a truck stop..I think it was 10 bucks for 2 lights..when I set my pod in there it covers my stock light..I thought id just move it...but everything behind the cluster is electronic. I miss the old days.lol..so if I hook it up that way.. it will only tell me if the GPR is active right??..where does the WTS gets its signal from??
I think EMPIRETC can answer that.I thought you just wanted a light to tell that the gpr was working. That is all this mod tells you.I believe the wts light is initiated from the PCM.Could be wrong.
thanks guy's...the way i read this..the GPR stay active even after the truck is running..how can i use this as the WTS light?? does it blink or any thing when its safe to start???
i tryed to give you guy's reps...but i need to spread them around...sorry
