front and rear axle gear ratio 73 f250

I have a 73 F250 and my axle code is b47. On a decoder I used it says that it is dana 60 front and rear with 4.55 in front and 4.10 limited slip in the rear. I saw another guy posted that he got the same results but had a different code. Just curious I dont think it is possible but would like to find out if maybe the vin decoder I used was wrong and I really at this point dont wont to pull the diff cover off or count wheel revolutions. My other 73 axle code is 24j the decoder says invalided code. thanks

B47 ?

How about B4 J

Rear axle = 5300 lbs Dana 60 4:10 ratio with Power steering

Front axle would be either 4.09 or 4.10

24 = 4.10 Ratio
J = Power steering

B47 ? Looks correct to me.

1973/79 Ford Truck Parts Catalog sez in General Info Section, page 62:

B4 is rear axle code.

B4 = Dana 60 / 4.10-1 / Limited Slip / 5300 lb Rear Axle Capacity

7 is front axle code (1973/75)

7 = Dana 44-6CP / 4.55-1 / 3500 lb. Front Axle Capacity / without Power Steering

There's also two other 7 codes...one for 1976, another for 1977.

Dennis, the Ford microfiche I'm using is dated 10/88 (last printing), but the page referenced above has August 1979 at the bottom of it.

I wish hipoparts would scan a newer printing of the 1973/79 parts catalog...it would be very beneficial to y'all with later info, and who don't have microfiche readers (and hence the actual Ford slides, which are still available from Ford [@$110.00 a set]).

It definatly doesnt have power steering no options at all exept limited slip. It was a ranch truck in Okla. for all of its life. So the front is a 44 not a 60? The 24j on my other truck makes since. thanks alot

Before '77, the front 60, and 44 shared the same external style hubs. There is not much stregnth advantage of owning a 60 of this vintage, the only thing on it that is stronger is the ring and pinion, and that is not what is going to break.

yes I had the joyous opportunity to address a weak point by putting new king pin bearings in my first 73 which just recently became my parts truck.
