I've had my truck about a year and am looking to repack the front hubs. As everything else on this truck has been neglected I'm assuming the bearings have been as well. The manual talks about using 2 Ford tools that I don't have. Does anyone have experience with a bearing repack? Do I need these tools or can I get by without them? Would it be wiser to send it to the mechanic? Give me the low-down on this task! Thanks in advance.
You will need the tool........OTC socket #7158 ...but get similar from a cheaper store usually about $25 .....you may be able to rentfree from Azone store.
wait.....theres a special tool needed somewhere in there?
i never noticed it!...or are we talking about something that my brain didn't understand when i read that? i took out my stock auto hubs put them back in, and replaced them with the new warn hubs and never had any special ford tools. allthough i did get a lot of tools from my old man so i don't really even know what i have
to pull the locking hubs you dont need the tool just some torx or allen keys. you need the tool to remove the nut the is behind the locking hubs if your pulling the rest of the hub.The autozone around here had the toll for $17. it a pretty simple job to repack the bearings. i think i have to replace mine today i will take some pics if you want.
