changed diff fluid, painted cover (pics)

i finally changed the fluid today. i was kinda surprised how the check/fill hole is less than halfway up the differential. i jacked up the one side a little bit to squeeze a little more fluid in.

as i was taking the cover off i noticed the cover itself was flaking away in my hands from rust. it was pretty bad. at that point i decided i needed to put some protective paint on it. went to auto store and bought some high-heat blue paint. seeing it dry and on the truck, i would have picked another color...but it's done, o well. my neighbor called it "trashcan blue". he's right

so the pics:

gears themselves for the hell of it

installed

used the extra to dress up my stock air intake a little bit

as for the hoses, i started working on my engine with just simple green and a few steel brushes this weekend. just an hour worth of work and it looks totally different. i'll save the total before and after shots until after i finish, but just this one hose gives you an idea of what a few minutes can do

obviously ended up deciding to paint them, but the rest of the hoses are on their way to looking that good. dull metal in this pic is also looking a lot better

hey not to high jack this, what horns are you talking about cutting off? Ive heard of that before but never got the whole idea of how it worked.

Btw nice job on the cover, makes my black cover seem kinda boring, better than rust either way.

here's the horn thread.

yes, i used like duplicolor high-heat engine block paint. it just talked about blocking rust and stuff. figured it would do the job. tip on the hoses, do VERY light coats. if you look closely i have some running issues
