first, i do understand that this motor will not sound like a V8...
with that being said.. i want to run the stock header, go with a high flow cat and a new muffler and have it come out infront of the rear tire (Single pipe, maybe dual tips for appearance). i want it to sound smooth and deep and be pretty loud... it know it will probably get high pitched at high rpms, but i want to keep that to a min..
what would you suggest?... if so, what series/model?
1. flowmaster
2. magnaflow
3. Gibson
4. Mac
5. Other...
well, im not too sure which one of those exhausts would sound best. I know you should avoid glasspacks for sure from what i have read. but if you wanna know what a cat-back sounds like watch this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=4oCKjxGIQ98
Personally im debating going with three inch downpipes off the manifolds to meet in a four inch collector exiting out a three and a half inch high flow cat and muffler of magnaflow manufacture. Think I will have the exhaust exit out a single tip about mid bed to eliminate the dog leg needed to get over the axle.
But thats just me. I like the sound of magnaflow. Dual Flowmasters sounds pretty good on most of the 350's I have seen them on.

I have a walker downpipe off my efi manifolds, going 2.5" into a thrush turbo muffler with a 2.5" exit. I thought about putting a tip on the end for more of a deeper sound, but haven't done it yet. Up to about 1700 rpm, it sounds kinda v8-ish, IMO.
I don't have a cat though....so yours would sound abit quieter with one.
PS: I have a video, but not sure if I can get it on the web. Maybe I'll try and post it if it works.
I also had a walker downpinpe off my efi manifolds going into a 2.5" thrush turbo. I hated the muffler, it was hollow and way to quiet, the airflow was also crap. I put a thrush glasspack on and its airflow was worse and the sound was horrible. As of now I'm not running a muffle, but I plan on trying out the Flowtech Raptor, from what I've heard its supposed to be a pretty good muffler for $20.
Look down these mufflers in the store. The Flowtech Raptor is not restrictive but maintains full inside diameter throughout the tubes. The Thrush Turbo restricts to a smaller ID once inside the muffler as do Cherry Bombs, though CB are not as bad as the Thrush Turbo. The raptor will cost about $20-$25. I like mine, sounds V8 in the growl, though will not imitiate the V8 fireing order sound. BTW, the raptor is the quiteter of the Flowtech mufflers. They have louder ones like the Warlock, Afterburner, Red Hots, Purple Hornies and Terminator. Check out their line they are under flowtechheaders.com and are owned by Holley.
I personally didn't care for the sound of the red truck, no offense. I had a glasspack on and it sounded kind of like that. I ended up taking it off and running 3" pipe after the first cat all the way back. I wish I could get a sound clip because it sounds different. I think it sounds a lot deeper than that, except its quite a bit more gurgly (Not sure if you're into that, I like it cuz it's different).
well in Ontario Canada it is illegal to run straights and im sure its the same for some states in the USA, so keep that in mind. I know if i could, i would be running straights .
i think i am going to go with a new cat and a dynomax ultraflow ss or somthing along that line of mufflers. single 2.5" pipe and bring it out infront of the rear tire with some square (gibsob style) tips.
What is this "walker downpipe"?? Whats so special about it? Where can i get one ford my ´89?
I´m gonna replace my leaking stock exhaust soon and i would like to get it as freeflowing as possible.
