Ouch! What happened TP? Looks like more than a loose wrist pin. Did it go right away? I hate it when you find parts in the crankcase that don’t belong there. How’s the bore?
That sucks man. Did it happen when you were cruising down the road or pouring the coals to it? My 390 is knocking slightly at 2000+ rpm under no load. Expected after 27 years of not being touched but I need mine to go for 2 more months. Hope the same doesn't happen to mine.
LAST EDITED ON 15-May-01 AT 07:12 PM (EST)[p]I dont know how it happened, I bought the engine like this in january and just now started tearing it down now that I have other bills paid off. I heard it run for a couple minutes before I pulled the engine and heard the knock and saw some smoke coming out of one pipe but it didn't sound that bad, I knew it had one dead cylinder (this one #1). The top of one of the rods has a bunch of little tiny dents in it so it evidently ran that way for quite a while. The bore felt ok, I think it'll bore out, I didn't feel any scratches. But there was about 2 or 3 pieces of piston ring land in the oil pan that went up in the crankcase when I rolled the engine over to pull the oil pan. I got the crank out and it looks fine, it's at .010/.010 and looks like it could be run as it, but I'll have it turned anyways for less crank/bearing speed. Still not sure if I'll run that rod or if it's incentive to go to Eagle rods
