Ok, I know yall will be able to tell me what i need to do. heres the situation.
for background... thisis a farm truck that was used by our mexicans for the last couple years. and the owner did a lot of cheap fixes to the truck. like all kind of capped off line on the carb. FYI, this is just gonna be a farm/ play truck.
me and a friend of mine have a old (70-pre86) toyota with the 22r carbed motor in it. The gas tank is mounted to the bed (flatbed) along with the battery. What we did was mount a inline elec. fuel pump to the fender, ran a line from the tank to the carb, and wired the elec to a dash switch (just a reg on/off). Well i kick on the pump and start the truck, and a little while later it dies. I know its just getting to much fuel once the carb. bowl fills up. What do i need to do to fix this? some kind of fuel regulator, or is a return clogged on the carb?
btw... im gonna have to get some pics of it. llol, its a orange yota, with painted nike checks on the doors, a deer rack mounted to the front. big TSLs on it (35 or 37in) with a flat bed and a good sized lift.
I'd also recommend a relay, and a inline fuse, to take the load off the switch, no sense in burning the truck down.
Ha, i did. i just left it out in the etyping process. we found a smaller fuel pump that might (maybe) cut off when pressure builds. So were gonna try that in the next couple days. but thanks for the input, thats what i was thinking before we found this other pump. At least im thinking the right track
You need an electric pump with no more than 5-7 PSI. Autozone and others sell these for installation in older vehicles. You may have to ask around a little, or perhaps visit more than one store. No return line needed.
