What's the biggst amperage dual belt pully alternator you can put in my 1982 F250 I6 300 without having to change brackets. So far I've found a 65 amp (NAPA). I was hoping for at least an 80 amp (using snow plow, two 100 watt KC driving lamps, a low to mid-line power stereo set up, two three speed heater fans. The KC lights and Snow plow will never be used at the same time.
I was told the bigger body alternators (100 amp) have problems fitting and have had yes and no answers as to having to change out the voltage regulator if I go with an 100 amp one.
I think I remember a small body 100 amp alt way back on my tricked out 1978 F150 Stepside that I rebuilt in '91 (of course that was on a 351 motor)
Also, a buddy of mine said to get a Type 31 (size) battery. It's the biggest size that will fit under the hood for that year. True?
Appreciate any help. I've run searchs but I haven't really found the answers I need
Run a dul battery set up with a manual switch, They make the auto switching deal but I don't like it. With the manual you can decide if you want #1batt or #2 batt or
IF you need the amperage on a cold snow plowing morning you can use both batteries in parallel!! It also has an off position to keep from draining the batteries in the off season. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get upwards of an 80 amp alt but it isn't needed
with a couple of 800-1000cca batteries.
