im rebuilding a 95 351 f4te block and was thinking about a stroker kit.
i talked to Jim at fordstrokers.com and he told me that i should only expect 75,000 miles out of a stroked 351 and i should just rebuild my 351 because i dont need a stroker to acheve what i want.
my question is how long should a rebuilt 351 last?
i would like to get 200,000 miles out of it well more then 75,000.
im puting this motor in a 67 2wd f250cs with a aod. i want to get a decent size tow behind camper and dont want the engine to labor on the truway (75mph)
dose anybody have a rebuild thats lasted over 100,000miles?
thanks
I'd be more concerned about how long the AOD is going to last in a towing application. I'd step up to an E4OD for that. My 95 E150 had the roller 351 and it had over 150K on it when I sold it early this year, it had nothing done to the engine, other than two tune ups, a new TPS and regular oil changes. It showed absolutely no signs of needing a rebuild, it ran as good then as it did when new. And it towed anything that was put on the hitch, from sea level to 10,000 ft.
There is no reason a rebuilt motor should not last as long as a new one. Same goes for the AOD, it can be built to widthstand heavy duty use as well as any other tranny. Check out performance tranny shops online for more details.
if the original motor lasted 200000, why wouldn't it do the same rebuilt?? if you want to be sure just put some heavier components in it during the rebuild. with a stroker kit i could see a shorter life span...more stress on parts, but otherwise, give 'er!!
i was thinking it mite not last as long because resizing rod, main caps, and cutting the crank weakens the parts plus having the stress of being used.
i just got the 351 from a yard. but know you can get decent miles out off a 351w.
the motor im building has 407hp @5500rpms and 451@ 3500rpm on the desktop dyno. using a iski 252/257 cam and AFR185 heads
i think for the money ill use aftermarket rods and crank
go .020 over on pistions (i can still see the cross hatching)
or would the stock parts hold up? i dont thik so.
Everything I have seen says the stock parts are more than up to that power level. Use good fasteners throughout, and don't machine the crank and rods any more than they need, simply have the crank journals polished if they are within spec.
my 351 build gets cheeper every day. the crank should polish up. ill talk to the machine shop about using the original parts.
now i need to find a good shop in western ny.
the last shop i had a engine built riped me off engine only lasted 3000miles.
he said i cant prove its his parts id like to
