Driving home tonight, I suddenly lost the gauges-speedometer, tach, gas gauge, oil pressure, etc. As I pulled to a stop in my driveway, I also lost all response from the gas pedal. I'm assuming I blew a couple of fuses, but it's too late and I'm too tired to check until first thing in the a.m.
Wierd thing is, for a while now, with the driver's door open I've been getting the door dinger with or WITHOUT the key in the ignition, and I'm thinking short circuit somewhere-question is where? And could that be related to these fuses blowing?
Is this wierd or what? Any suggestions on where to look?
I was driving with friend when he had that happen. He had just replaced his batteries as he had troubles starting the morning before, we replaced the altenator and his problem was fixed. I had a problem with my gauges as you described but my alt. was good. My connections to my batteries was not, cleaned them up and my problems went away. How did your truck start this morning? The dinger thing is wierd, someone with more smarts than me will chime in.
If no start check the number 19 and 20 fuse. this may be a fuel bowl heater that is broken. if the fuses are blown, open fuel bowl, remove filter and look a the coiled heating element in the bottom of the fuel bowl. Is it there? is it intact. If no, then remove the wire plug on the back of the fuel bowl and see if it will start(after replacing fuses, and filter and closing drain valve)
It may also be as simple as a CPS, they are know to do strange things when they go out.
The truck started up in the morning minus gauges and only at idle-no response from pressing the gas pedal, but it started easily. I changed the number 19 fuse, and all was well. I will check out the fuel bowl on the weekend. So far the fuse is holding.

Thanks for the help, guys!
Could also be the TPS (throttle position sensor) if truck started and no throttle response
When I replaced the fuse the throttle was fine. According to my manual, the Auxiliary Powertrain Control Module, the instrument cluster, the GEM module, the Overdrive Cancel switch, the Idle Validation switch, and the overhead console (which I don't have, BTW) are all on this fuse. Wouldn't the problem be with one of them?
I didn't mention it before, but I have blown this fuse several times in the last 6 months.

Check the wires coming from your shift handle for chaffing on the OD switch circuit(it has been a problem that a few others have had) A replacemnet shift lever (with wiring) can be had from FOMOCO.
Well, it took a while to find the time to work on it, but you guys were right-the wire from the overdrive button was worn right through the insulation. I patched it up and here's hoping....
Thanks, guys!
