Hay I have a question, not meanin to hijack your thread or any thing. Since these new superdutys are suppose to start in -40 (I think) weather does that mean you will basicaly never have to plug them up until it drops below that? Just wondering..... I will tell you though I would plug mine up any way (If I had one) when its cold out side.

You definitely have to plug them in, everything will either need to be plugged in or something at that temperature, starts getting colder and you'll need to tiger torch it all before driving

I had a computer reflash TSB 07-17-3 done in August. Part of the reflash is to put a message warning about cold weather starting in the Instrument Cluster Message Center. Below -23F you should use the block heater (3 hours)to have easy starting and good oil lubrication paticularily to the Turbo. The 2008 6.4 PSD truck will start at much lower temperatures below -23F than the 6.0L and & 7.3L PSD so you may damage the turbo as had happened last winter to three 2008 trucks in Manitoba. If you insist on starting the 6.4 PSD below -23F and have not used the block heater, a new warning message will show in the Instrument Clusrter. It will say "Engine Warming". Do not exceed idle until this warning light goes our. Should take up to 30 seconds for the warning light to go out.

If you live in the Canadian Great White North like I do, consider using Motorcraft 5W-40 CJ-4 oil. This grade is good for all temperatures from the Arctic to Florida. Look in your 2008 SD owners manual to see oil weights. You will see the 6.0L and the 6.4 l oil grades vs temperatures on the same page. The 6.4 L uses very different oil grades than the old 6.0L and the 7.3L. Mobil One synthetic oil is now avaible in 5W-40 CJ-4 There is a thread on this in the 6.4 L PSD forum.
