having some problems with my E4od after driving it and it running a normal temp it like going in neutral about at 20 to 30 mph and you let off the gas and it slammed it in to gear if you push the accelerator to the floor it like under large load. now it fine when it cold. the trans fluid is a little foamy on the dip stick don’t know if that normal I do have a rebuilt AOD trans to get me buy but I do remember some post on this if some body would be able to help me find those post thanks
Shift position sensor on side of tranny where shift cable hooks up sounds bad . Mine would do it at different times . Like pulling a long hill thought it would rip tranny out. I replace with used one I had and been fine since . Hope your is this simple if its not the sensor.
As for the fluid foam don't know it would act up miles from home and just kept driving . Hey if tranny went I wouldn't have to haul as far.
Agree with above post. I believe the technical name is MLPS Manual Lever Position Sensor. Went bad on a '94 Bronco with nearly identical symptoms. Pretty cheap to replace. Definitly try that before swapping trans. out. If you do an internet search or look at this website there are plenty of references to this problem. Primary problem is water gets into them and raises he**. Good luck.

Pull your codes. It sounds like you could have a bad TPS (throttle position sensor). One of those going bad causes a whole host of problems, including a poor-shifting tranny.
I've got the same problem with my son's 93 f-250. I was going to change the trans filter today and see if it helps. Let me know how you make out with the sensor.
ok scanned the pcm and no good codes came out to lead to the trans problem the codes that came up were 157 Maf sensor circuit low , 22 map baro sensor high or lower than expected so this is what i got i did clear them all and i will check this again later so this is where iam at
Well I went ahead and picked a mlp sensor up and will try to get it in today. Let you know how it goes. I did change the trans filter and fluid saturday. Really don't know if it helped or not as it doesn't do it all the time. Fluid was fine but the filter and magnet had alot of fine metal all in it. The trans was rebuilt around 50,000 miles ago. So I think it needed to be changed anyways.
Got it in and it seems better. Now you don't have to play with the gear shift to start it. Not that you needed to all the time. Put the key in and it starts right up. Won't know if the rest of my problems are fixed till I drive it some more. Problem was, it didn't do it all the time. Same with the shifter in park, just sometimes. But I did have the same problem as Water 5, about after it warmed up, pull up to a light and try to go it seemed to be in neutral. If you shifted it into low 1, it would take right off. Then put it in Drive and all was fine. I don't drive this truck much so it may take alittle time before I'm sure it's ok.
