I am finally getting around to replacing the points and condenser and stock coil in my 1965 to better fire up the old FE 390. Truck now runs very well at higher RPMs, but can hesitate and has occasional hard starting and rare stalls.
Just bought a Pertronix II module to replace the P&C and a Flamethrower II coil. Does anyone have any experience with these? I am interested in anyone's personal experience in perfromance improvement in the low RPM's. Also would love to hear about plug-gapping for optimal performance. I can tinker, but would love the advice of someone who has been there before. Also would love to hear about any issues with impedance (i.e. do I need the dropping resistor?) when installing these units.
John, There are a lot of us that run the Pertronix and it is a well respected upgrade. Usually problems only arise from bad installations, it is a very reliable unit. The install is pretty straight forward so you shouldn't have any problems.
Thanks John. I hope to install it this weekend. Truck runs great at higher RPMs, but feels kind of sluggish off the line. I am hoping better spark will improve the low end.
