I am new to the 6.0 world. I picked up a 03 f350 a few weeks ago. I am still learning all of sounds and feel of the truck.
One sound I am wondering about is when stopped I sometimes hear what sounds like an air pressure relief valve opening for a 5 seconds at a time. Not like air brakes but more steady. It does not always do it. Very random.
From my reading here these turbos do not have a wastgate is that reason for the sound?.
Depending on your exhaust you could be hearing the turbo veins cycling, especially if your truck has the latest ford flash. The veins are cycled to keep them from sticking. Other than that I don't have a clue.

It came with a volant intake and bassani exaust no cat. The turbo sounds like a jet engine taking off when I accelerate.
I think you may be hearing the turbo veins opening and closing. Is it more prevalent when the truck isn't warmed up completely?
yes I hear it more often when the truck is still cold. But I would think it would be the other way around veins open when at idle and closing as I accelerate.
