I am looking for cam suggestions for the 360 I am building. I plan on having the heads rebuilt with bigger valves and hardened valve seats. I am 17 and don't need a whole lot of power cause I don't want to wreck the truck and have to start over. The truck will not be used for hauling or towing mostly city driving. It has a 3 speed overdrive trans. with a 3.50 rear gears if that makes a differance. I was thinking about using crower or comp cams. Thanks Eric
try looking at the small crane dual pattern cams they have more lift and duration for the exhaust than the intake and I'm fairly happy with mine and would probably really like it if I had higher compression
I like the Crower cams, they offer several to choose from. I went with the Beast #16903, 214/224 @50 521/537 lift 112LC rpm range 1200~3800 redline 5300+. It's for agressive midrange and really kicks in just above idle. I think something in this range works well for a stock engine, but if you want to wind it up a bit (> 5000 rpm) they have one in the 2200~4500 range that will help high end breathing.
Don't forget, new lifters and proper break in of the cam. Also, headers w/ dual exhaust work excellent on these engines.
Has any one used the adjustable rocker arms from crane cams. Jegs has them for $179 and I was thinking about getting them. Does any one sell a shaft for the rockers? I haven't been able to find them. Thanks Eric.
Erson makes the ductile adj rockers for about $129. I got my shafts from Napa for about $25 ea. Nice time to upgrade to the alum spacers and forget the spring spacers.
Here's a link to the rockers, I think the $175 from Jegs are not ductile iron.
