I just got this 94 Bronco and the rear window only went part way down. So with some persuasion I got it to move freely up and down. The switch in the cab would only work the window, the rear key swith did nothing. I put the back panel back on again and thought all was good. Went to put the window up and nothing. So I checked to see if I was getting power to the motor and it is, I am thinking it has to do with the switch inside the tailgate. I did get the window up by jumping power to the motor.
Has anybody had a similar situation? Is the switch inside the tailgate sold at parts stores or online. Any help would be great.
There is a switch in there as a safety(?) I happen to be lucky enough to have a spare I thought to snag off a scrapped bronc. It is common. Can't say if the local store would have it, I always snag that kinda stuff when I go to the salvage yards. I would be curious to know what it would go for if it is available. Try LMC?
The tailgate has interrupt switches to make sure the gate is latched closed for the window to work. Sometimes the gate doesn't latch fully and can cause problems too, but that would affect the dash switch as well. I’d check the gate switch connections before you order another. Not likely the switch died in both directions. More likely it's not getting power if it doesn't work in either direction.
you dont need to buy a new switch, just bypass it. get two of the connnecters on a wire and they plug right in. it took about 10 min once we got the right connectors. if i remember correctly, that way you wont ever have to worry about the latch again, you will know its closed when you shut the gate. look at the wiring diagram on page 12-62 of a haynes manual, section E47, if you dont have one, there will be a red-yellow wire running to the tailgate latch switch, and a tan-black one running from it. connect the two however you want, it will think it has a closed circuit all of the time.
