TFI_SPOUT question

My truck was stalling then restarting at 40 to 50 mph. I pulled the TFI/ICM to test it according to Haynes book and it passed. reisntalled and truck wouldn't start. I got it to run by disconneting the SPOUT connector near the distributor. However, it only runs if I hold the igniton key in "START" mode. If i let it drop back to "RUN", the truck quits. I know disconnecting the SPOUT lets it run so you can set timing. I don't understand the key position problem. Any help would be appreciated. Is it the TFI/ICM, a short in the SPOUT circuit, problem with ECM?

Test the wires from the ignition switch with a multimeter, ground the black wire from the meter somewhere good, with the ignition in run, stick a pin in the wire and you should have voltage on the ones according to your manuals wiring diagram. It sounds like a bad switch to me, try wiggling and bumping the ignition if it is a bad connector and this gets it it to stay running or show voltage. Please post your trucks info(year model, motor, trans, differential ratio, etc. It is a big help so we can help you!! Put it in the signature so we can see it in every post. Did you reapply dielectric grease or heat sink compound to the back of the tfi when you put it back?

more info

It is a 1985 F150 with a rebuilt 351W. I belive it had a 302 EFI originally. It has the TFI-EEC-IV ignition with TFI mounted on dizzy.

I perfomred a test last night where I removed 6 pin connector from TFI. I checked voltage at "run" pin with the key in the run position and got 7 volts. When I put key in start position, I got nearly 12 volts at both the "run" pon and the "start" pin. Would this indicate some kind of short somwhere in the ignition switch or the "run" wire to the TFI?
