Folks, I did a search, but couldn't find anything except advice to go to the glass shop.
I just removed my back glass by pushing on the glass from the inside while pulling inward on the gasket and having my son catch the glass on the outside. This was the way to do it that I read here on the forum and it worked great! Now, can I take the same approach to get out the windshield? I have the top strip removed and the gasket loosened everywhere and I can push on the corners and get movement.
The windshield is already cracked, but the original weatherstrip is in remarkably good and pliable condition, so I would like to reuse it if possible. It is in good enough shape that it might be better than an aftermarket one.
SOoo... can I do like I did on the back glass and start pushing while peeling the weatherstrip inwards?
Since the window is already cracked you don't have to be gentle with it. Its 2 pieces of glass stuck together with a piece of vinyl in between so it doesn't explode all over. You will get splinters and chips tho. Take the other strips out on bottom and sides and bust it out and reuse the good weather strip. Save you inspection stickers you'll need them. I've got mine stuffed in the corner being held in place with a rag until I get it inspected next week. Haven't been pulled over by the cops......yet! Have fun getting it back in. Thats the tuff part. I used alot of WD40. The corners are the biggest pain.
