headers for a 67

i have put a 351w in my 67 f-100 and am having great trouble finding a set of long tube headers. i bought a set of flowtech headers for a 68 with a 302 and there is no way they will ever fit. has any one else found a decent fitting set??

Welcome to the forums. For the record, there were no 351Ws installed in this series truck so there are no headers for that combo.

I have read where 302 headers have been used, and one of those owners should be along shortly and share what worked for him.

That's the problem, since no 351's were ever installed, you most likely won't find much to fit properly since the deck height and spread is wider then a 302.

Welcome to FTE and good luck with your project.

I've done a few with 351W's, takes a bit of rework on the tubes to get them to fit correctly. A bit of cut, piece, and weld will make the Flowtech's fit just fine....

i put 1977 302 headers on mine from summit fit o.k had to adjust front driver side tube some with the ballpeen. header paint burned off right away and dont look the prettiest but fit good.

I had a lot of fit and fuction problems with long tube Hedman headers in my 70 with a 302. Finally replaced them with a nice set of Summit shorty headers. Could not be happier. They look good, lots of room and no leaks or interferance problems.

If you run a stick shift, headers have always been an issue with my trucks. The throw out arm always runs into the collector flange. Usually end up removing and welding reducer on collector to step down to 2 1/2".

20+ yrs ago, before having any fancy tools to handle this I mounted a stiff spring to the firewall and attached to throwout arm. This was just enough to keep it off collector ring. The things you do when you don't have anything else!

i ran a set of flowtechs on my 66 years ago with a windsor in it with a c-6, they fit fine, got em from oreilly's just gotta be sure to get em for an f-150, like a 79, if you get em for a f-100 they never came with a c-6 so they hit the sides of the transmisssion pan and stuff,

Welcome to (FTE)

I have posted many times on these header issues, I have not used flow techs but I have run Headers on everything from I6's to 351W and 302 also in
65-77 Ford trucks.

Here is a link to a post that may be helpful to you
Also you can check a few of my other posts on Headers by searching my posts. There is a wealth of information in those posts, and not just from me.

i talked to a stock car racer friend today and he said check out schoenfeld. they have a street stock/truck header fits 67-72 its for a 289-302, but it does have 1 3/4 primary which would be great for my high revving engine. has any had these before? they also have 1 5/8

Engine setback is great!!!! Lots of room with the little Windsor engine to move it back some without having to do a lot of mods to the firewall. I haven't really looked at one to see if it can be done, but if you can get the spark plug for #1 cylinder to be in line with the kingpins, that truck will weight transfer about 100% better then with the engine in it's stock location.

As for the Schoenfeld's, I've ran them before, but always just the 1 5/8" tubes. I usually don't twist a street engine hard enough to need the 1 3/4" tubes. On the last stroker engine I built, we've played with some step headers but as yet have not had it on the chassis dyno to tell you how much they help....if any. I think my next set of headers is going to be a set of tri-y's on a Windsor with a set of adjustable length collectors.... The tri-y's were really the trick set up on the small inch Mustangs years ago, seemed to pull more mid-range power then anything else, and flowed good enough to make for a very strong big end on the engine, too. Might want to consider a set of them while you're shopping, too. Just rambling on, I guess!!! Seems to be so much goes into what is the best header for a given engine. Different cam timing seems to prefer different length and tube size headers as much as just the RPM range of the engine. Then, we could discuss exhaust scavenging for another dozen or so posts!!!! Wish I had the time and money to get a set of everything and spend a couple days flogging them on the chassis dyno!!!!!
