I've got a 1996 F-150 XLT 4x4 with a worn-out turn signal switch. I've never pulled a steering wheel that has an air bag, so I could use some sage advice.
I gather the battery has to be disconnected for a few minutes before I do anything. I've got a variety of steering wheel and gear-pulling devices. Do I need any special tools? (The truck's got a tilt wheel.)
Unhooking the battery wouldn't do any good probably anyways...alot of airbags come with a backup power storage in case a battery explodes during a wreck.....
1-Pull from the pop on the air bag unit monted on the steering wheel.
2- disconect terminals.
3-cover open leads W tape.
4-Have fun! that steering colum is a pain.

you dont need to pull the wheel to replace the turn signal switch, i did it a few months ago witout taking the wheel off. Its 2 scrwes under the column trim.
The guy who wrote the web page that I cited above also said that he thought it was possible to leave the steering wheel on. I'll try that first. Thanks.
Thanks. So do I have to do anything special to ensure that I don't accidentally set off the air bag while taking apart the steering wheel?
