98 4x4 broken leaf spring

Hey Guys

Just noticed the second leaf on the drivers side cracked and slided towards the gas tank. Dont know how long ago it happened but i did notice she sat a little lower on that side from the front. Thoguht it was the sway bar links that broke but after replacing them it didnt change. This was a couple months back. Just noticed the broken spring today. So how hard is it to replace the leaf or the entire stack and how much $$$ this might cost me
Thanks, Dave

It wouldn't be hard with a set of cutting torches, Cut all the old rudty bolts and replace them with new ones. If you have to unbolt them, could be very hard. I don't know how much a spring pack would cost. If the truck is in good shape, might be worth your wild to just buy 2 new ones, one for each side. If one side breaks, the other probobly isn't too far behind. If the truck is just so so, you could get a spring pack from the bone yard to keep you truckun.

Thanks alot, the trucks in pretty good shape, got about 137k on it just did a oil change today. Since this is my dads car he would probably go the new route since he wants to drive this thing until the wheels fall off. Would i just get the old pack out and simply bolt the new one in or would i have to compress the new springs etc.? Could it be done in the driveway or would i have to put it on a lift?

They are not that hard to take apart and replace the broken leaf. Not too long ago i bought some junkyard springs for $40 and in about an hour i had them in place of the cracked ones on my f150.

Both of the leaf springs on my 98 4x4 have gone (not at the same time). When each happened, I took it to a spring shop. Each time it cost about $100 to get it repaired (replacing any broken leaves, clamps and putting back together).

Replace both packs at the same time or the truck will sag on the old side!! http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SJA%2DFR34S&view=1&N=700+150+4 294908331+4294907827+
They are progressive rate springs for a good ride around town and not too bad of a deal on the price, Might as well get urethane bushings for the rest of the truck, If he plans on keeping the truck they will add to the longevity and handling feel of the truck. Just chock the front wheels, break the bolts free, jack it up, put on sturdy jackstands, remove drive shaft, remove rear shackle, lower rear end to tires with jack and chock the tires so it don't move, remove spring mounts on axle pay attention how any shims are in there(take pictures with digital cam) remove front spring hanger bolt, slide out the old, slide in the new ones and put silver antisieze on all the bolts as you reinstall!!

A few months back the second leaf on my drivers side went too (pretty common from what i hear) took about 15-20 min to get apart. took new leaf into an alignment/machine shop-they cut one up arced it the same as the broken one so both sides of truck would sit the same... cost about 45-50 bucks for new spring adn retaining clip... i used my old u-bolts ...soaked em in kroil b4 werking on em and they come off real easy (even for 110,000 in salt covered wisconsin) aabout 15-20 min to put back together
