Recently bought an 85 F150 with the 351 2brl Windsor. Love this truck, especially since it only has 90K. Haven't had any problems with it until now.
Noticed a small amount of liqiud (think it's coolant) leaking into the passenger side foot-well. It's coming from a black box right above where your feet go. Then two days later I smelled something sweet, and noticed a large amount of smoke coming into the cab of the truck. When I say a large amount I mean it. The smoke was sweet smelling and tasted really bad. I pulled over to pop the hood but there wasn't any moke in the engine bay. I traced the problem back to the big black box bolted to the passenger side of the firewall, conected to another piece of equipment. (master cylinder?) I was thinking of taking those two pieces off of the firewall and trying to isolate the leak. Does anyone have any ideas/advice?
Is there a possibility of disconnecting it? How important is this heater core in daily driving. (probably a noob question) If it's at all possible to just take this thing out and not have to replace it I'll do that.
what you can do for a quick fix is, on the engine bay side of the firewall are the two heater hoses. Disconnect them and you just connect them together using a plastic pipe about the size of the inner diameter of the heater hose (5/8'). If I were you I would just replace it its quick and very easy.
The heater core isnt really important unless you live somewhere cold
