engine noise

I have a 390 that when i start it up it runs pretty quietly and feels good but odviously cold. but as it warms up it starts ticking. I am trying to figure out what the problem is so if i can temporarly fix it. If i can't fix it i will still be on for my rebuild this summer. thanks for the help

Mine does the exact same, I found my rocker arms were worn, but what kind of sound? bottom or top of motor? mine would be quiet cold, but start clicking/tapping in the cyl. head area when warm, and the rocker arms are at fault, I have been told it is fairly common for FE motors.

Usually a ticking or clicking noise is the fault of a bad hydraulic lifter. Worn rocker arms on a solid lifter valvetrain will cause this noise also. If your motor is the original 69 motor it has hydraulic lifters.
