I'm thinking about doing the headstud install soon just to be on the safe side and was wondering if this would be something I could do myself with relative ease and if so, would it be best to remove the old ones first and then put new ones in or could I just do them one at a time? Is this possible to do with the cab still on the truck or will it be a pain to get to the back ones? Thanks!
Head studs need to be installed with either the cab off or the engine out; your choice. The rear studs are impossible to put in with the cab in the way. I would not recommend doing them one at a time as the likeliehgood of warping a head is very high. If you're going to that amount of trouble, take the heads off and verify that they're good; put some good gaskets in and do the job 100% so you know what you're dealing with.
This probably not the answer you were wanting to hear, but as far as I know it's the correct one.
Haha, no thats not the answer I would've liked to hear but I'll probably be making the trip to Spartan this winter for some "stuff" and just get it done then, lol. Thanks for the response!
There is a kid over at ford-trucks.com that installed headstuds with the motor in and the cab on. Check that site for the thread, he took alot of pictures while he was going.
