Problem updating EDGE

I have just purchased a new EDGE (EEF2400) for my '07 F-150 (5.4L).

I have connected the edge to the truck and it does work properly as a display, I have not tried flashing to a stage map yet.... Now, before I do this I would like to put the lastest firmware on the edge...

I connected the edge to my comp and downloaded the "lighting 3" software of edge's web site. The first 2 days the software was unable to connect to their server for some reason (internet works fine at home and all ports are forwarded to this computer from the router). I have tried this on 2 different computers at home with the same result.

Now, today I have managed to get the software to connect to the internet (didn't do anything, it just decided to work.. maybe edge's server was down). BUT... when I connect the edge to the usb port, the software is reporting that it is unable to detect the evolution model.. The evolution does not light up and nothing shows on the display either... is this normal?

So, I guess my question is, does anybody know what could be wrong? Am I doing something wrong or overlooking something stupid? Maybe the evolution can only be updated while connected to the truck?

Definitely squirrely behavior.

Once you download and install the Lightning software, it should manage the communication between Edge's servers and your programmer. It is supposed to check to see that your programmer and files are "good", then check online for updates that are available for download.

Having lived in the computer world for years, this could be attributed to everything from server issues, corrupt files to gremlins.

You might try this...remove the lightning program from your system and download it fresh today. Once that's done, reinstall and try to connect to the servers. Sometimes companies take their systems down for maintenance on the weekend. If this doesn't change anything, I'd give Edge a call and ask what's up.

update:... 3rd a charm...... .. tried it on the 3rd computer at home and it works...

first computer was running windows XP..... no luck..
Second computer was a fresh install of vista.... it just won't conncet to the edge..
third computer was running windows XP and it worked

As for not being able to connect to the edge server.. I think their server was just down (and had come back up today).. All is good now

One question tho..... my initial plan was to run the latest released driver and not tough the beta stuff.. BUT.. it seems that since I have a '07 5.4, I have no choice but to run the beta patches. Is there a certain version that people would recomend (the most trouble free one).

Lastly.... my engine oil temp readout is showing 0 all the time. is this normal? (engine coolant temp, cyl temp, etc are all working perfectly tho).
