hi guys i'v had my 06 screw for about a year now. love the truck just hate the automatic tranny i did a search but didnt find anything they Put the 5.4 and manual 6 sPeed in the f250 has anyone tried Putting the manual in a f150 or do they make a conversion i know it would be alot of work but it be worth it to me i have been watching but i havent see anything about a manual in the f150s down the road i sure hate to go trade my f150 in on a f250 cuase i dont quite need that big of a truck
buy an Edge and set the transmission shifts to be firmer. you'd be surprised what that thing can shift like.
otherwise, I'm willing to bet the 5/6 speed won't fit in the F-150 drive tunnel. They don't make 'em "one size fits all" anymore. I think it would be such a huge hassle.
with enough money it can be done. the 250 bell housing clutch & linkage should adapt to the 5.4 and the pedal assy from a v6 f150 stick should fit. the only question i would have would be the rear trans mount and driveshaft which could be fabbed. the rear ratiio could be an issue too as you might have to go 4:10 or 4:30 as with the f250.

I would probably never do this conversion myself but I have thought about it from time to time.
along with what dartguy699 said, here are my thoughts on it:
Beings the F-150 and F-250 use the same 300hp 3v v8, wouldn't you be able to use the ECM from the F-250 5.4 that already had the 6 spd behind it? Besides using the clutch/linkage/ hydrolic cylinder from a F-150 v6 stick for inside the cab, you would also want the steering column. That way you would get rid of the gear selector on the column and it would give you the push button that trucks/ with sticks have to remove the keys.
I bet that the ZF 6spd is too tall to fit under the tunnel on the F-150, but I bet you if you did like a 2 inch or so body lift it would fit. You would most likely have to re fabricate you Transmission mounts. If the truck is 4x4 you might have to use the transfer case from a F-250 as well. Special made drive shafts would most likely be necessary. As far as the gear ratios of your axles are concerned, I don't see why 3.73s (or even 3.55s if you have them) wouldn't work. The ZF 6spd has such a slow first gear anyway that starting out with loads shouldn't be a problem. If it lugs too much pulling a load at highway speeds, just use 5th (4) instead of 6th (od)
So ideally I would think that you would want to find a complete 2005 or newer 3v V8 5.4/ZF 6spd/transfer case all in one unit in a wreaked SuperDuty. That way you would have the whole Power train including the electronics to make it work in the F-150.
Making the Drive train fit, installing the drive shafts, and installing the clutch components & steering column would be the most straight forward part of the endeavor to me. Beings the Engine is the same everything should hookup, but it comes back to whether or not you could use the ECM from the SuperDuty or not. If not, you most likely would have to work with some sort of performance shop to create a custom tune for you new setup.
Like I say, I would never probably do this conversion my self. mainly because of the lack of time and money it would take to do it.
All of the ford trucks that I owned before I bought my current truck were Manuals. Before I bought my truck I was strongly considering ordering a F-250 with a 5.4 and a 6spd just to have a Manual transmission and a front axle that still had lockouts on it. But after driving the truck that I ended up buying, I decided that I could live with an automatic. Besides My little Saturn VUE that I commute with has a 5spd stick so I still have at least one vehicle that has a stick in it still.
You would want to have access to a shop with a hoist in it that you could lift you cab and front clip with. That way it would be a lot easier in my mind getting every thing to fit right including figuring out how much of a body lift you will really need.
While this may not be the most cost effective solution, if you have access to the facility's and tools necessary, and have the time to do it right, it would be pretty cool to have - most likely - the only 5.4/6 spd stick in existence!
If you decide to do this conversion to your truck make sure to keep us posted and take pictures.
You have another major obtacle. If you use the f-250 X-fer case, you may need to do a Solid axle swap so that the front driveshaft isn't at a weird angle. The IFS front is not condusive to using the f-250 x-fer case.
Even if it does line up, you will need custom driveshafts front and rear.
You will spend less money just to go trade your truck in and get what you want.
The automatic PCM can be reprogrammed to handle a manual transmission. Its really not that hard...
What he said.
They never made a manual transmission Taurus SHO with a V8 from 96-99. Yet there are 3 or 4 complete setups done. Tuning takes care of the check engine light form lack of an auto. Also one 2002 V8 SHO with a 5 speed ...
