Hay guys just wont your input, I had input on puting 0/40 esso synthetic in my 1991 E350 7.3 were the block only has 100000km on it. The addvice I feel is good considering I get minus 30 some days in the bush
What do u think
I think that would be an excellent choice. If nothing else, go with the 5w40 synthetic as from Shell Rotella T. Even the 10w30 diesel rated oil is preferred for bitter winter temps.
I'd avoid 15w40 all-together. That oil gets very stiff and thick in freezing temps, causing your starter and oil pump to work needlessly harder, @ cold starts. Put a 1/2 quart of 15w40 in your frezzer overnight. You'll see what I'm talking about.
Good luck. You're smart to consider these alternatives.
Ed
Thax Ed, Im not a big fan of Shell as I use to work for them in Fort Macmurray and notice a certain atitude that wasn't very humane.
But your input is greatly needed Ill be thinking of u on my ice fishing trips at -30 in the bush when I need to get home in the bus.
You can put Delo 400 Syn 0/30 in it. Here in bush Alaska we have been using it for a long time with very good results. We also put it in air cooled Duetz dsl that are in a hovercraft with good results. V10s and v12s. Hope this helps.
I assume you are talking about the Esso XD-3 synthetic right? If so then use with total confidense because i know know of a couple of guys that use it in their cummins, and i use it in my wife TDI for the past couple of years.
I take it you are from Canada because it is only available up here....if you can find an Esso outlet you can also buy the 0w30 for the winter.
