Setting My Timing
Whelp! I borrowed my buddy's brand new Craftsman Inductive Timing light and started my first timing check. Removed the SPOUT connector, clamped the front passenger wire (#1 I hope), clamped the battery terminals and fired her up. Shot the light at the balancer and found that someone had already marked it for me, assuming the mark was correct I went ahead and set the timing according to that mark. It spun too fast for me to get a shot of the mark but it looked like this when I started:
So I unscrewed the hold down not on the distributor and rotated it counterclockwise a bit and got it looking like this:
Took the truck out for a drive and it has no power!! I got out onto the main drag and gave her some juice, the engine revved up just fine but the truck barely went anywhere. Anybody know what I did wrong?

Yeah I'm not exactly sure where the actual line is because it's hard to tell when the balancer is spinning. The white line that you see was drawn in by me with MS Paint.
The line that's there now was already there when I started my timing... I'm just assuming its in the right place... What are you supposed to use to mark that balancer to make the timing light shine light it up?

the timing marks are on th balancer.. chek it good... becuase where you marked it i didnt see the marks... rotate it or get under the truck to see the marks.. you Will see 20 BTDC* 10 BTDC* 0 * and 10 ADTC* mark it where you want it to be and set it at the marked ontop of the balancer

I'm not sure that you guys are understanding correctly...
That white mark that you see is IN THE WRONG PLACE. I painted that in with Microsoft Paint just so you guys could see where the timing light was showing my timing was at... IT IS JUST A REPRESENTATION because I couldn't catch a picture of the mark with the balancer spinning...

Umm from what I understand, you should then put some paint in the groove, disconnect the spout, losen the Dist. and while watching the harmonic balancer turn the Dist till the new marked groove is lined up and then shut the engine off, tighten the bolt and then check the timing again to make sure it didn't move while tightening. after the timing is set, connect the spout and check it again it should be advanaced with the spout conected.

So the lesson to learn here is that even if there is a mark on the balancer, you can't trust it unless you put it there yourself. Thanks for the help guys.
