'88 BII starting problems
Truck has been sitting in sellers yard for an unknown length of time. My mechanic got it started initially by installing a new battery. It smelled of raw fuel the whole time it was running, and my mechanic said that one of the cylinders was dead. When it was shut down, we could not get it started again that night. My mechanic got no spark, and so we replaced the ignition control module on the distributor the next day. It then fired up and ran good for about 20 minutes. During that time, my mechanic noted that the distributor was loose. When the engine warmed up, the idle began to surge, and my mechanic explained that was the computer trying to find its optimum idle settings. He reached under the hood and as soon as he adjusted an idle screw, it died. We have put the screw back where it was and adjusted the distributor, to no avail. While trying to crank the truck there is a strong smell of fuel at the engine. Spark and air are definately present. Please Help!
