Internal or external balance..

Just a quick question here.....What year was the change over from internally balanced 460 to externally balanced? I'm replacing a dead 400 in a '77 F250 with a '78 460 and want to use the '77 400/C6 torque convertor. Can I do this?

Thanks

Hello, The externally balanced 460ci was produced from 1979 onwards. So you should be able to use that torque converter .

The torque converter is part of the tranny and is alway neutral balanced. It's the flex plate that is different for the internal/external balance.

Thanks guys for the replies. Thanks for setting me straight on the flex-plate balance as opposed to balance on the convertor. Guess I just need to find some 460 engine stands now.

Take care all.
