hey all,
my truck has always pulled the code for a bad knock sensor. i was wondering if this sensor affects gas mileage in any way?
also, i ran my truck for about 3 months with terrible spark plugs, and the engine ran really rich, as well as a leaky injector for a period of time. do any of you think my o2 sensor could be fowled up from that already??
Is it pulling code 25? If so, the sensor might not be bad. The knock sensor test is an interactive test...if you watch your code reader closely you'll notice a prompt to tap the intake manifold near the sensor...I usually use a scredriver and hammer...this simulates an engine knock...the test tells you if the sensor picks it up. If you don't do that tapping you'll always pull a 25 code.
The wires inside that sensor are tiny and prone to corrosion or breaking. Put your multimeter on millivolts and tap on the area next to it if it is functioning it will jump up some voltage. It is piezoelectric device. If it isn't working and you don't pay attention to the motor You can do some damage. Run a few bottles of gas line dryer replace the plugs if you haven't already and get on the highway and open her up to burn off any carbon from the motor(o2,comb. chamber, etc.) Use it or lose it as they say!!
ya of course! i open her up all the time, but when i'm just cruising it still gets pretty terrible gas mileage (for a 302) so i was just wondering if the few things wrong with it could produce a worse gas mileage.
ill check the codes again today, im curious to see if it'll pull an o2 sensor code...
