i ve got a 95 f150 with the 5.0, ive started the dreadfull oil pan replacement because mine rotted through. ive done everything the manual said and the engine wont go up any further. ive got just enough space to get a 2x4 block in between the motor mount. any help would be great, also the bolts broke from were the exhaust meets the manifold, would headers be a good thing? any suggestions?
Headers are good, but if you are just going to put them on cause you broke a bolt no. A lot of people have problems with headers cause they buy cheap ones and they leak. Is the engine hitting anything that would prevent it from going up any more?
You could try to take the tranny mount loose and see if that will give it some more free play. Be careful not to take them out though, or your tranny engine combo will fall.
well ive been thinking about headers anyway, ive got a cat back system now and im not to happy with the sound, i think headers will improve it.i dont see anything in the way, except its close to the firewall, i took the tranny mounts off so its free , im holding it with a jack.
If it's not on the fire wall it should still go up at least a little. Is the tranny hitting the body? I could be wrong but I don't think headers will change your sound to much.
If you can see the oil pump bolts you might be able to unbolt it and slide the pan off, then just put your pump in the new pan slide it back in and bolt it back up. I've done that before.
I just did mine a few month ago. My book told me to remove the upper intake. I did that and it was still tight. It's not that tough. Even with that I still had to unbolt the oil pump and drop it in the pan. I tells you to remove the radiator, I don't think I had to, just the hoses. A little propane torch works wonders on rusty bolts. I did my valve cover gaskes also.
You'll have to take off the upper intake plenum, plus to get the angle of the bellhousing right to gain more space, you may have to lift the back of the tranny (unbolt it from the x-member) about 1.5".
Deff. need to loosen tranny bolts. It came up, like you said inch or more. I swear my motor mount nuts had lock tight on them. The first one was to tough I rounded it. Then I had to use an air chisel turning it about 1/4 turn at a time. The second one I used a little heat and it came right off.
