Considering an Escape

I spend most of my time at the Ranger forum but may be visiting here too in the future. I am thinking about buying a 2005 Escape for my wife. I haven't actually seen it yet. A friend of mine owns a used car dealership and he found it for me. It will be here sometime late next week. It is an XLT, 3.0, automatic, 4x4 and its loaded and has 47,000 miles. I haven't talked price yet either other than it will be in the $10,000.00 (+/-) range. Is there anything that I need to pay special attention to when I check it over prior to purchase? (I'm still keeping my trusty little 98 Ranger)

No, not really. Most of the quirks were worked out of the escape by the end of model year 2004. The Escape has turned out to be a gem for Ford right now, especially the hybrids. They are selling quick.

You won't go wrong with an Escape of any variety in the 2005 and later models. They are great little vehicles. I have two of them and had a 2004 before the current two. The four of us routinely travel in ours and there is still room in the way back for us to hit the warehouse store for our monthly stock up on everything trip. A little tight if we forget to take the carriage out and a car seat and a booster seat pretty much kill the rear seat but it works for us.

Also, depending on what type of driving she does, the 3.0 likes gas. It is very acceptable on highway driving but not so much in city driving.

My g/f loves her '01 V6, 154k mi and still going. I'm not having much luck getting her to consider a new vehicle. Aside from a couple of ignition coil issues and the recent ignition lock fiasco, it's been pretty trouble free.

If you a fortunate the stock Continental tires have been replaced, otherwise make sure the transmission has been properly serviced and you should be good to go.
