I'm on my fourth pickup. The first was a well used '69 F-100 with three on the tree. I currently have a 2001 F-150 work truck. Not the latest and greatest but a big difference from the early days.
I did most of my own maintenance on the first three because I bought them used and wasn't too worried about making mistakes. When I bought the new '01 - I had a good job and got lazy and took it to the dealership every 5000 miles. I didn't even do my own oil changes. Now that I'm retired and on a fixed income I have started to get back to doing as much as I can myself.
The first thing I noticed was the lack of rust falling in my eyes while laying on the concrete under the truck. A big plus for working on a newer vehicle.
The second thing I noticed was the incredible amount of money I am saving. In the past year I have replaced two ball joints, a tie rod end, front rotors and pads all around. Big savings!
I have found a lot of helpful info on this site and others and I really want to thank everyone for passing on the know-how. Maybe one day I can return the favor.
