I haven't had to buy one lately, but I would think that quality-wise Dennis Carpenter would be the best source because they use the original tooling/process. To modify the opening, I used a dremel with a small cutting wheel - went thru it like butter and you have good control of it. I had to cut off part of the metal bracket behind the surround and fabricate a new one out of aluminum sheet. Sorry, no pics - I've been really bad about that during my rebuilds.
I'm still at work, and do not have a photo on this pc...but I'm pretty sure that I've got one at home...if not, I'll take a new pic for ya. I had to cut mine once upon a time, and it came out looking pretty good.
Couldn't find one with a new radio type cutout at all at Either. Blue Oval has I think some custom ones (polished). Their site is a little confusing. Not enough pictures!
I ordered mine from Dennis Carpenter, but he also supplies the same thing to other dealers. The fit and finish was excellent. I kept the shaft-style arrangement and went with a nos pioneer supertuner: Excellent radio reception, but I have to use a cassette adapter to run a portable cd player.
I think Blue Oval or NPD have new ones with a slot for the CD players.
I would be interested in seeing that. Do they include a new metal bracket will allow the teeth of the mounting collar to grab, instead of to the bezel?
