Can I just unbolt my transfer case (208) from my tranny (T-18) without removing the tranny from my truck? (83 F-150 4x4). and just stick the new on back in?. I'd really like to just leave the tranny alone. What kinda fluid does my transfer case take?.
yea its that simple. The transfercase uses your standered gear oil.
Dont worry just pulled mine and I have the same drivetrain you have. Undo you speedo, 4x4 light, drive shafts, breather tube of some sort on top and Shift linkage. Then undo 6 bolts. Around the out put shaft where it mates to the t-case. Then PULLL! mine came off with a little fuss but not to bad.
All done. I found a 208 for 50.00 and put it in last night in garage at home. Took me about 2 hours, pretty simple swap. 4x4 works great, good timing because last night when I came outside from the bar it was snowing like crazy!!. Oh yeah, I am in Alaska, why am I surprised it snowed at the beggining of October?.
