Odd electrical problem

I've got an E350 cutaway 26 passenger bus that runs great during the daylight hours. However, when you run it at night within 4-5 miles the headlights start to go dim. By 6-8 miles it dies. Jump starting it will get it another 4 miles or so before it dies again. Could this be in the light switch? I'm not real sharp on electrical systems in vehicles, but I seem to recall that the charging circuit includes the light switch on older models.

sounds like the alt. is almost shot
just enough output to keep it charged with no load
take it AAP or autozone to get it load tested

Sounds like your battery and or the grounding connections to the battery. Check your battery voltage, alternator charging voltage with headlites on and off.

Run a double battery set up and at least if the alt dies you will have double the runtime on batt power. If you are carrying passengers you will want redundancy, You don't want to die on the side of the road with irate passengers!! Double batts will help if you have lots of extra interior lights and or tv's and other stuff like fans, etc.
