Auto-hubs problem??
When I engage my -91 F-250 in 4WD everything seems normal, 4WD-light is coming on. But when I drive it, it sometimes makes a hard ratcheting sound. Especially when driving up hills with a lot of corners. Does this sound like my automatic hubs are failing? I have had them cleaned and lubricated with ATF.
How do I figure out what is wrong??

I trust you are going a good way in reverse after disengaging the transfer case.Had the same problem with my 94' took them apart several times for cleaning but still occasionally stick. My remedy is to keep going from reverse to drive engaging and disengaging until they unlock.

try the u-joints in the front running gear. i allways seem to loose them when i corner in 4wd. even after i got the manual hubs in. i ddnt really get a sound when my auto hubs gave out they pretty much just stopped locking in. tearing them out we found several broken peices.
