I'm replacing the oil pan on a 95 5.8 Bronco. The pan is done. The question I have is about the air tube that goes between the cats in the exhaust. The tube broke off the pipe while moving the exhaust around to get the pan out. Is there any way to rig this up to work again? I'm thinking use a pipe fitting in the exhaust with some kind of coupler to the air tube. Would this work and could I use some type of rubber couple? Heater hose or something? Anyone done something similar?
Second question I have is about the exhaust manifold studs/ bolts. Three of them broke, leaving me with two about two inches in length and one that is just about one inch. I have been soaking them with PB blaster and using a MAPP gas torch, but they just wont budge. Any ideas? I acn get a right angle drill if it comes down to that, but I'll other suggestions first.
well if you can find a shop that will weld a metal cuppler over the broke part it will be fine dont use plastic rubber or any of that puttyweld stuff wont work. gets to hot
I doubled up some nuts on two of the studs and keep trying with the PB Blaster and then heat. I'll keep at it. Maybe I'll get an acetylene torch from work and give that a try.
If you're talking about the air tube that runs from the heads to the pipes...don't worry bout it...mine's hanging...all it does is pump cold air..thinking of routing it into my intake then I can say I've got "forced induction"lol.......I'd say keep at it with what you're doin with thebolts(or what's left of em) have you tried some seafoam deep creep? That stuff seems to work pretty well.
I was able to remove one by double nutting it. The second one I tied like this broke even shorter. I was able to drill that one out and retap. I'm working on the third now, just got the pilot hole drilled all the way through. It got dark, so I'll try some more over the weekend or early next week. Pulled the inner fender to get the drill in there.
Flareside, so you are saying it is ok to just run with the air tube unattached? Should I just plug the exhaust hole? What about the inlet, I don't want to suck any water or dirt in there.
