Wanting to Stroke It

Got 390 and want to stroke it. Any suggestions, kinda new to the FE thing, so I kinda need to now what piston, rod, crank, etc I need. Not looking for any particular CID, what do you experts think is best.

Wanting to Stroke It

There are a few ways to stroke it out. One way is you can just go buy a 428 crank. They are a little hard to come by and will cost you at least 400 bones. That will give you a 410 with a standard 390 bore. You can offset grind your existing crank and run chevy rods to at least a 4" stroke. I have no idea how much an offset grind costs. You also as a last resort buy a SCAT crank that has a 4.125" stroke. The kit costs about $3500. That would give you 425 cubes. You can use stock 390 rods with everything above except the offset grind of course. If you decide to use a 428 crank and make a 410 and don't intend to be really souping it up or using nitrous you can go to autozone and get a set of pistons for a 1976 390 truck which are actually the same as mercury 410 pistons. Or you can get the TRW L2291 forged pistons and have the tops shaved. Keep in mind that a 428 crank is an externally balanced crank instead of an internal like your 390.
